Heat treatment

In August 2023, AvCarb completed the acquisition of a state-of-the-art idled heat treatment manufacturing facility in Wadsworth, OH, south of Cleveland. The location provides expanded capacity for development and manufacturing of engineered carbon components and other graphitized products. The strategic acquisition brings significant manufacturing assets, lab space, and improved energy costs to AvCarb. The new site has 28 induction coil furnaces, capable of achieving ultra-high temperatures up to 3000° C. In addition to the existing furnaces, we have added carbonization capability. After 8 months of integration and equipment recommissioning, the site is operational. This asset’s capability and improved process control will enable AvCarb to expand production of the highest quality, most efficient engineered carbons and graphitized products in the world.

Facility Capabilities

  • Proven and time-tested design for processing carbon materials at temperatures up to 3000⁰ C in an inert (nitrogen or argon) atmosphere
  • 24 Induction Coil Furnaces (working hot zone 48”ID x 120” high), capable of 3000 ⁰ C
  • 2 Smaller Production Induction Coil Furnaces (working hot zone 38”ID x 80” high) capable of 3000 ⁰ C
  • 2 R& D Induction Coil Furnaces (working hot zone 16”ID x 40” high) capable of 3000 ⁰ C
  • Carbonization Furnace (working hot zone 29”x 34”x72”) capable of 1200⁰ C
  • Remote Control room with programmable and automated ramp and soak cycles for each furnace.
  • Overhead crane systems for each bank of furnaces
  • 24,000 CFM Regenerative central Thermal Oxidizer allows for processing of a variety of materials including materials with volatile content.
  • Closed loop water cooling for all furnace components with back up emergency generator
  • Centralized vacuum system for removal and screening of pack materials
