AvCarb’s Molded Graphite Laminates (MGL) are uniformly molded rigid graphite sheets that offer superior performance in harsh electrochemical environments found in electrolyzers and fuel cell systems. Our MGLs have high mechanical strength that is ideal for high pressure operation or spanning wide channels, excellent corrosion resistance to handle harsh operating environments, high thermal and electrical conductivity for high operational efficiency, and are lightweight making them ideal for portable electrochemical systems. The uniform pore structure and thickness of our MGL panels provide consistent compression accounting for differences in thickness tolerances on other system parts, such as bipolar plates or other electrodes, thereby enabling high process yields providing a cost-effective solution for many systems.
MGL Advantages over other carbon papers:
- Lower Electrical Resistivity
- Higher Flexural Strength
- Improved Thickness Uniformity
- Higher purity / Improved Durability
- Product made in the USA
Why AvCarb MGL for Electrolyzers:
- Carbon paper is compliant to handle stack component tolerances
- Carbon paper is much lower cost than Ti on the cathode side (3-10x less)
- Carbon is resilient in harsh conditions, does not need coatings for durability
- Eliminates the need for a flow field in a PEM electrolyzer system
- Enables high pressure operation
